During the meeting, they discussed the path of return, recovery and reconstruction in the areas affected by Israeli attacks, especially the projects implemented by the Council for Development and Reconstruction within the framework of the Lebanon Emergency Assistance Project (LEAP).
President Salam confirmed that the tenders for these projects have begun to enter the bidding stage in the southern districts, noting that the value of the projects that will be awarded before the end of the year is expected to reach about $70 million out of the loan allocated for the project, and that the people of the south will see the results of these works on the ground during the coming months.
The research also dealt with projects to strengthen and rehabilitate damaged buildings in the southern suburb of Beirut, which are being undertaken by the Higher Relief Commission, with work to begin in the coming days, according to the currently available capabilities and credits.
The attendees discussed other projects that the Council for Development and Reconstruction is following up in the affected areas, especially the rehabilitation of infrastructure and basic facilities, including roads, water networks and public services, and the importance of accelerating their implementation in coordination with the concerned departments, institutions and municipalities.
President Salam stressed that the government continues to work to secure the necessary funding and accelerate executive procedures, within available capabilities, and to ensure that projects reach the most affected areas.
