On Friday, US President Donald Trump made a phone call with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, whose country is participating in the mediation with Iran, to discuss efforts made to end the war in the Middle East, amid diplomatic efforts to avoid a new round of escalation.
Diplomatic efforts are underway in recent days to prevent renewed military operations after the United States threatened to launch large-scale strikes on Iran, despite Trump indicating progress in negotiations to end the war that broke out in February with the first US-Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic.
The Qatari Emiri Diwan said in a statement that Sheikh Tamim received a call from Trump during which they discussed “developments in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing the escalation in the region.”
She noted that Sheikh Tamim "stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and adopting diplomatic means to settle differences and spare the region from further escalation."
