Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf announced, according to what was broadcast on Iranian state television, that Iran had provided a strong and rational response to Washington, indicating that the ball was now in the court of the United States. Qalibaf stressed that Tehran is still ready for battle, “with its finger on the trigger.” He explained in a speech he delivered before Parliament that "any new error in Washington's calculations will put it facing a different confrontation." He stressed that if "Washington commits another strategic error in its calculations, it must realize that this time it will face a new battlefield, and it will find itself in a more desperate situation than it is today, as it searches for a way out." These statements come after strikes launched by the United States on Monday evening on the Iranian island of Qeshm, and American officials described them, according to CNN, as limited. On the other hand, a senior Iranian official believes, according to Reuters, that reaching an agreement with Washington is still far away, and that Tehran will not accept American demands that it considers exaggerated. He added that reopening the Strait of Hormuz depends on meeting Tehran's conditions.
