The Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban announced in a statement, in addition to its previous statements regarding cutting off electricity to public departments, institutions, and municipalities that are behind in paying their dues, that “a large number of concerned parties arrived, on the third day of this ongoing campaign, to the institution to review the arrears schedules and reconcile invoices and receipts, in preparation for settling their financial situations.”
He pointed out that "the settlements were made according to the mechanism approved by the institution, which is based on replenishing food after making a first payment and submitting a written pledge specifying how the amounts will be paid, with a commitment to paying the monthly bills regularly." He stressed that "contrary to what some people are circulating, the electrical supply was not restored to any party without its compliance with the aforementioned conditions, and that all cases of restoration were carried out in accordance with the approved standards."
He also stressed that he "does not adopt the unofficial regulations circulating in the media, including the names of departments, institutions, numbers, and amounts," calling for "exercise accuracy and relying exclusively on what is issued by the Electricité du Liban."
He explained, "This campaign aims to collect dues, improve collection, and establish regularity in paying bills. As for announcing claims and warnings through the media, it falls within the framework of informing the concerned authorities and informing public opinion of the measures taken. The institution performed its duty professionally and responsibly, far from any showmanship."
The Council thanked “all the parties that responded and cooperated, and everyone who supported this campaign positively,” appreciating “the efforts of the Corporation’s employees and the relevant teams,” stressing that “this follow-up will continue until all the arrears are paid,” pointing out that “any violation of the new settlements or failure to pay the monthly bills regularly will lead to the immediate re-cut of the electricity, according to what was communicated and agreed upon with those concerned.”
