The Electricité du Liban explained that the general power outage, which occurred yesterday, Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and led to a power outage at Rafic Hariri International Airport, resulted from a malfunction in the communications systems in the telephone exchanges that provide service to the temporary center created at the main transfer station in the public.
The Foundation indicated that the complete destruction of the National Control Center (N.C.C.) as a result of the Beirut Port explosion on August 4, 2020, led to the adoption of the temporary center at the Jamhour station.
She pointed out that the malfunction in the communications systems delayed returning the network to service, as a result of the interruption of telephone communications.
According to a statement from the airport presidency carried by LBCI channel, the airport administration resorted to backup generators after the power was cut off since the morning, and the presidency confirmed that it had not received an official response to its repeated inquiries from the institution about the reasons for the outage.
On October 23, the Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban Corporation decided to cut off power supply to public departments, institutions, and independent departments that defaulted in paying their dues, with the exception of government hospitals, as of Monday morning, November 2.
The Corporation confirmed that it will continue to make the necessary efforts to ensure the minimum stability of the electrical network, in light of the limited production, and to address any emergency malfunctions as quickly as possible.
