Prime Minister Nawaf Salam discussed with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, at the Government Palace the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of Arab countries supporting Lebanon in the path of return, recovery and reconstruction, which contributes to stabilizing the people in their land and enhancing the presence of state institutions, stressing the importance of encouraging Arab investments in Lebanon, especially in infrastructure projects and regional connectivity, in a way that supports the path of economic recovery.
For his part, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Nabil Fahmy, said: “Today I met with the Prime Minister, after the meeting with the President of the Republic and the Speaker of Parliament. These meetings are at a high and high level, during which I had the opportunity to listen to the Lebanese leaders and see their assessment of the difficult political situation in the region in general, as well as the circumstances that Lebanon is going through in particular.
Fahmy affirmed the support of the League of Arab States and his personal support for Lebanon, noting that Lebanon has priority in the issues of the Arab League, which was reflected in a strong decision issued by the last Ministerial Council of the League, which included supporting Lebanon as a state, institutions and positions, supporting the Lebanese-Lebanese reconciliation, supporting the Lebanese national state, and emphasizing the endeavor to support Lebanese efforts to resolve issues, as well as providing the needs of Lebanese citizens.
He explained that this decision formed the basis for his current move, as he intended for his visit to Lebanon to be one of his first visits outside the region after the issuance of the decision, to benefit from its effects and build on them.
Fahmi added that he listened to a number of representatives and held a number of meetings with them, pointing out that he would continue that day before making a visit outside Beirut, after which he would return to Cairo, the headquarters of the General Secretariat, carrying a complete assessment and accurate understanding of the Lebanese priorities, in an effort to achieve the desired goals and ensure the proper implementation of the League Council’s decision, in a way that responds to the needs of the Lebanese state, which is of special importance to the League of Arab States.
