Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting devoted to discussing the necessary preparations to start work at Klayaat Airport, in the presence of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the Beirut International Airport Corporation, Engineer Muhammad Shatila, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sky Lounge Services, Ziad Al-Manla, and the Chairman of Mada Airlines, Ahmed Al-Hajj.
Last May, Sky Lounge Services won the bid to operate and invest in President Rene Mouawad Airport - Klayaat [1]. Salam had said in early October that the project had reached its final stages, and he promised that commercial flights would start from it next month [2]. Al-Jadeed Channel quoted the Prime Minister as saying that the first commercial flight from the airport will take off on November 15.
Salam also chaired, at the Grand Grand Serail, a meeting that included the ministerial committee charged with following up on the Solidere file, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri, and the Ministers of Finance Yassine Jaber, Culture Ghassan Salama, Economy and Trade Amer Al-Bassat, Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny, and Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction Muhammad Ali Qabbani, along with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Solidere Nasser Al-Shamaa and a number of members of its Board of Directors. The meeting was devoted to continuing the discussion of the content of the letter that the government had previously addressed to Solidere regarding the request to extend the company’s term, in which it stressed that any extension must be based on clear foundations that guarantee the achievement of the public interest, and be linked to specific obligations that include the completion of projects and public facilities that have not yet been completed, especially the waterfront, Martyrs’ Square, public spaces, and cultural and heritage sites. The company's current term expires in 2029, according to what was published by Al-Akhbar newspaper.
