The Electricité du Liban announced that, as of November 2, 2026, it will cut off electricity supply to all public departments, institutions, and independent departments that are behind in paying their financial dues, after the expiry of the deadline it granted to the debtor entities to avoid this procedure.
She indicated that the value of the accumulated dues from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation at Rafic Hariri International Airport amounted to about $22.8 million, which places the facility in serious danger of a power outage in light of the inability of state institutions to settle bills between each other, especially after the recent power outage incident on Wednesday, October 28.
She confirmed that the measures include cutting off electricity to various departments and departments (such as water departments), while government hospitals are excluded from this measure.
For his part, the Director General of Beirut Airport, Muhammad Shatila, explained that the airport’s revenues are transferred directly to the public treasury, and that paying bills is the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance, amid communications conducted by the airport administration with the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of Works and Transport to remedy the crisis before the specified date.
