President Joseph Aoun confirmed during his meeting with Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Helen McEntee that Lebanon wants UNIFIL forces to complete their operational mission in the south, and welcomes any alternative European force in cooperation with the United Nations, if an extension is not possible.
Aoun pointed out that the logistical and technical support that the alternative force to UNIFIL can provide will have a positive impact in facilitating the mission of the Lebanese army and facilitating the lives of southern society, stressing that communications are continuing with Washington to put an end to the Israeli attacks on the south.
He explained that Israel, through its attacks, creates obstacles to the implementation of the framework agreement, which prevents the Lebanese army from extending the state’s sovereignty to the borders and restoring stability.
