Reuters revealed on Monday that Qatar intends to build two power plants in Lebanon during the next three years, in addition to signing an agreement to supply liquefied natural gas for a period of 20 years, as part of a proposal to support the faltering electricity sector. According to the document, prepared by the Lebanese and Qatari governments in October 2026, the support program includes generating electricity from gas, supplying and regasifying liquefied natural gas, in addition to renewable energy projects, battery storage, and connecting regional electricity networks. The proposal comes after Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani visited Lebanon last week, where he publicly pledged to help revive the electricity sector.
