Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired a Cabinet session in the Government Palace, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Mitri and a number of ministers.
The session witnessed the withdrawal of the Lebanese Forces ministers, in protest against the way the electricity file was handled.
Industry Minister Joe Issa Al-Khoury explained, “Our withdrawal from the session came after we demanded that the electricity file be dealt with more seriously, without taking any decision regarding it, while the resignation of the Minister of Energy has not been submitted yet.”
Following the end of the session, Information Minister Paul Morcos read out the decisions of the Council of Ministers, announcing the Council’s approval to establish stations powered by alternative energy, and to postpone consideration of a number of items to next Thursday’s session.
Morcos stressed that “the electricity file is essential and serious, and is in the process of being monitored,” noting that Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met yesterday with Energy Minister Joe Al-Saddi, to discuss increasing the hours of electrical supply and securing the necessary resources.
Regarding the issue of the explosives truck seized in Dahr El-Baydar, Morcos explained that no government decision has yet been issued to refer it to the Judicial Council.
He pointed out that the Minister of Justice proposed a draft decree to refer the case to the Judicial Council, but the Council of Ministers did not take a position on it, as it was not included on the agenda and the draft decree had not yet reached the Council’s table.
He added: “When it reaches us, it is built on what it requires.”
