Islamist prisoners in Roumieh Prison announced the start of a comprehensive strike refusing food, water, and medication, which also includes those with chronic illnesses, in protest against the stalling of the general amnesty law. In a statement issued by them, the prisoners held the political forces behind the obstruction of the law responsible for any repercussions that may affect their lives, considering that their humanitarian file has turned into a card for bargains and partisan calculations. The statement called for popular protests in various Lebanese regions in support of their cause, and also directed an appeal to the Syrian people to support them, affirming that their suffering is one, and rejecting the use of their file in settling political scores. This escalation comes after the Constitutional Council suspended the implementation of the general amnesty law, following the appeal submitted by MP Gebran Bassil and his parliamentary bloc.
