The Army Command announced that an attempt to smuggle 12 people of Syrian nationality into the outskirts of the town of Arsal ended with the death of one of them. She explained that on November 4, 2026, while an army unit was carrying out security measures to prevent smuggling and control the borders in the outskirts of the town of Arsal on the Lebanese-Syrian border, a vehicle without registration plates and equipped with blind glasses, coming from Syrian territory through an illegal crossing, attempted to pass an army control point, while its driver tried to run over its members, endangering their lives. The police officers fired warning shots to force the vehicle to stop, before its driver fled to an unknown destination. After inspecting the vehicle, it was found that it was carrying 12 people of Syrian nationality, who were being smuggled into Lebanese territory. One woman was injured by a gunshot, while three others were injured as a result of shattered glass. They were taken to a hospital to receive treatment, but the woman soon died. The Army Command concluded by noting that the investigation has begun under the supervision of the competent judiciary to uncover the circumstances of the incident, while follow-up continues to arrest the fleeing driver.
