The US Department of Treasury announced that it launched, on Monday, "Operation Economic Outcast" against Iran, under directives from President Donald Trump. It indicated that the campaign, which it described as "unprecedented," includes US government agencies and targets Iran and the entities that enable and support it, noting that the sanctions included 60 entities, individuals, and vessels linked to Iran in the fields of nuclear energy, missiles, and oil. The Treasury Department confirmed the suspension of general licenses that allowed certain financial transfers to Iran, pointing out that the sanctions target companies and vessels belonging to the **"shadow fleet"** in the UAE, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and Switzerland. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealed that Trump is holding contacts with world leaders aimed at cutting economic relations with Iran, noting that the measures taken are intended to choke the Iranian regime and target the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The ministry stressed that every country has a specific timetable to halt the targeted activities, warning that if countries fail to take the required measures, Washington will act unilaterally using its powers. It added that it has warned countries that facilitate the smuggling of Iranian oil or allow the use of their banks for the benefit of the Iranian regime. It confirmed that the concerned countries will be granted a deadline to shut down the activities specified by the Treasury Department, including closing the branches of Iranian banks abroad.
