The Iranian capital, Tehran, is preparing to host an extraordinary security meeting that brings together high-level officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran, in a remarkable diplomatic and security move aimed at launching a new path for regional coordination, in light of the escalating tensions taking place in the region.
The Deputy Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Bagheri Kani, announced that the meeting will include Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, the Pakistani Army Commander, Field Marshal Asem Munir, and the head of the Turkish Intelligence Service, Ibrahim Kalin, along with the Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei.
He explained that the meeting comes as an Iranian initiative aimed at taking an effective step towards building a regional security system starting from within the region, expressing his hope that this initiative will lead to enhancing stability and peace.
He stressed that Tehran's strategy is based on ensuring regional security and confronting any foreign interference or influence, in reference to Iran's desire to strengthen the role of regional countries in managing security files away from external powers.
In this context, Reuters quoted two informed sources as saying that the meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 26, and will bring together Iran with officials from the three countries that are part of the “Mecca Joint Defense Agreement.”
