Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed during his meeting this afternoon with the Vice President of the Supreme Shiite Islamic Council, Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, and the accompanying delegation in Tehran, that negotiations with the Americans will not resume unless the first clause of the memorandum of understanding related to Lebanon is implemented, and there will be no final agreement unless Israeli forces withdraw from Lebanon.
Araqchi stressed the necessity of establishing the best relations between Iran and Lebanon with all its components, reiterating the invitation to the Lebanese Foreign Minister to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In turn, Al-Khatib thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its honorable position towards Lebanon, in terms of insisting on stopping war and aggression as the first item in the memorandum of understanding with the Americans, noting that it is a position that expresses Iran’s commitment to its covenants and its loyalty to the Lebanese people who made the most precious sacrifices for the sake of their dignity and pride and the dignity of this nation.
