The municipality of Rmeish and its activists appealed to the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, to give his attention to the issue of summoning Father Najib Al-Amil, “against the backdrop of words that were misunderstood, in light of the exceptional circumstances that the town is experiencing.”
The municipality said in a statement: “Rmeish and its people have never forgotten that His Excellency the President stood by them in the most difficult circumstances, and his concern for their security and steadfastness in their land. From this standpoint, we turn to him today with the confidence of those who know that His Excellency has never left Rmeish, and will not leave it today,” stressing that “the town, which has always adhered to the state and its institutions, good neighborliness and coexistence, has been and will remain under the roof of the law and the authority of the judiciary, keen to Lebanese legitimacy and the ties that bring together the people of the region, no matter how severe the circumstances are.
She pointed out that “the people of Rmeish, like all the people of the steadfast border villages, taste the two things to protect their land, their homes, and the borders of their homeland.” They are the ones who chose to stay despite all the dangers. They only ever asked for the state to be present by their side, and to take into account the harsh conditions in which they live.” While the municipality of Rmeish and its activities declare their full solidarity with Father Najib, who stood by the people of the town during the most difficult ordeals, they reject any political exploitation of this incident or taking it out of context, and confirm that Rmeish does not want to be the subject of controversy, but rather to remain, as it has always been, a land of meeting and good neighborliness. And adherence to the state.
The municipality appealed to the President of the Republic to intervene, within the constitutional and legal frameworks and with full respect for the independence of the judiciary, to help address this issue in a manner that takes into account the truth of what happened and the exceptional circumstances that the town is going through. “Farmish, who has never abandoned the state, is confident that the state will not abandon her, and that His Excellency the President will remain, as we have promised him, by its people and their steadfastness on the borders of the nation.”
