The Ministry of Agriculture seized a fishing violation using explosive materials off Kafr Abida in Batroun District, and referred the violator to the competent judiciary, as part of its efforts to combat destructive fishing methods and protect fish wealth, the marine environment, and fishermen’s livelihoods. Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani valued the cooperation of fishermen and unions in confronting practices that deplete marine resources and harm the fishing sector. The Ministry explained in a statement that it had received a complaint stating that a boat belonging to one of Barbara’s fishermen had used dynamite for fishing off Kafr Abida. She added that, subsequently, a team from the Ministry, with the support of the Internal Security Forces, went to the port terminal in Batroun, inspected the boat and seized illegal diving equipment on board. The Ministry's team examined a sample of fish recovered from the site of the violation, and found that they were caught using explosive materials. The Ministry confirmed its continued pursuit of fishing violations, stressing that protecting the marine environment and fish resources is a basic condition for the sustainability of the sector and preserving the livelihoods of its workers. It renewed its support for law-abiding fishermen.
