Today, Tuesday, the Minister of Economy, Amer Al-Bassat, issued a decision to stop the circulation of specific dairy and cheese products from three different factories, in order to ensure public health and consumer safety. He indicated in a statement that these decisions were based on the results of laboratory analyzes that proved that samples of the products of these laboratories did not conform to Lebanese standard specifications. Laboratory analyzes of cheese samples of the types (Feta, Double Cream) and labneh from the “Miral Taanayel” factory in Qab Elias - Zahle District confirmed the presence of starch and that they contain vegetable oils. Laboratory analyzes of samples of cheeses of the types (Halloumi, Double Cream, and Czech Akkawi) and yoghurt from the “Center Milk Taanayel” laboratory in Qab Elias - Zahle district did not conform to the standard specifications resulting from the presence of starch (in the types of halloumi and double cream) and their containment of vegetable oils (in the types of Double Cream, Czech Akkawi, and yogurt). Laboratory analyzes of samples of Czech Akkawi cheese from the “Al-Mukhtar Dairy and Cheese Factory” in Housh Al-Sayyid Ali - Hermel District also proved that they did not conform to the specifications from a microbial standpoint. “Based on the results of laboratory tests, it was decided to stop trading in all the aforementioned products belonging to the first and second factories in the Lebanese markets. As for the “Al-Mukhtar Dairy and Cheese Factory”, it was decided to stop trading in the Czech Akkawi cheese product. The factory was also asked to withdraw its products offered for sale, and to prepare tables of the withdrawn quantities within three days, in preparation for their destruction under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
