Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that it has become known that a few days ago a truck was stopped in Dahr al-Baydar heading from the Bekaa to the Greater Beirut area containing hundreds of kilograms of explosive materials, including the highly explosive C-4. He stressed through his account on Salam said: “I would like to first extend my greetings to the security forces that stopped the suspicious truck, seized the explosive materials it was loaded with, and referred its drivers to the competent authorities for investigation. I understand the concern that the Lebanese have over the spread of news of the arrest of this truck and the materials it was transporting, especially since C-4 was used in a number of notorious political assassinations in Lebanon’s modern history.” He added: “But from my position as Prime Minister, I ask all the Lebanese to be confident that we will not be complacent in pursuing the investigation and expanding it, to determine the identity of all those involved in this criminal operation, and those behind them, to reveal their plans and goals, and to refer them all to the judiciary to receive the punishment they deserve. And also be confident that our government will not tolerate anyone who dares to tamper with the country’s security, safety, and stability, and it will also deal firmly.” What is required with any weapon outside the framework of legality is possession, transfer and use.” No leniency or connivance, but truth and accountability.
