President Joseph Aoun affirmed during his reception of a Syrian ministerial delegation at the Baabda Palace that "the visit is an indicator of the soundness of relations between the two countries," stressing the importance of economic integration in the region. Aoun pointed out that "there are capabilities that must be activated through balanced relations and mutual respect, and the distinguished geographical location of Lebanon and Syria qualifies them to play an alternative role during periods of tension in the region." For his part, Syrian Economy Minister Mohammad Nidal Al-Shaar said: "Our presence in Lebanon today aims to forge Syrian-Lebanese partnerships and open a new page based on peace, love, sincerity, and balance in relations." He added: "We are focusing on making the relationship between the two countries institutional through agreements and protocols, and benefiting from the redrawing of the region's map."
