Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri received Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the accompanying delegation at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain the Tina, in the presence of Egypt's Ambassador to Lebanon Alaa Moussa and the media advisor to the Speaker of Parliament Ali Hamdan. A review was held of the latest developments regarding the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as political and field developments in light of Israel's continued escalation of its aggression against Lebanon and its humanitarian repercussions, particularly the file of the displaced, in addition to the efforts being exerted to stop the aggression. Speaker Berri thanked Egypt, "its president, government, and people, for their permanent and supportive standing by Lebanon in various circumstances, especially in this delicate phase facing Lebanon and the Lebanese as a result of the Israeli war," praising "the endeavors exerted by Egypt at the humanitarian levels and to stop the Israeli aggression." Abdelatty For his part, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said: "I have just been pleased and honored to meet His Excellency Speaker Nabih Berri, Speaker of Parliament in the sisterly state of Lebanon. I conveyed to him a message of solidarity and full support from the Egyptian leadership, the Egyptian government, and the Egyptian people to the sisterly state of Lebanon and the sisterly Lebanese people in these difficult circumstances that Lebanon and the region are going through. I also mentioned that I am here in Lebanon upon direct instructions and directives from His Excellency President Sisi to stand by Lebanon and provide all humanitarian and political support and full backing to Lebanon in these delicate circumstances." He added: "I am here, as I mentioned, accompanying the symbolic shipment of aid provided by Egypt, which approaches one thousand tons of relief, food, humanitarian, and livelihood aid to support our brothers and sisters here in Lebanon, who have been greatly harmed by the blatant, condemned, and reprehensible Israeli aggression on Lebanon and on the capabilities of the Lebanese people. These attacks have resulted in the crisis of forced internal displacement which, as Speaker Berri mentioned, has resulted in the displacement of more than one million and seventy thousand Lebanese citizens who left their homes and lands because of these blatant Israeli attacks. Certainly, as I mentioned, we condemn these attacks and condemn the infringement upon Lebanon's unity, safety, and sovereignty, and we also condemn the use of the method of collective punishment and causing forced displacement to achieve political purposes. These are reprehensible and condemned matters, and certainly represent a blatant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations." He continued: "Hand in hand with the Egyptian humanitarian support and message of solidarity, is our readiness to meet all the requests of our brothers here in Lebanon to deal with and alleviate the repercussions of the internal forced displacement crisis. We also conveyed a full message of support to sisterly Lebanon and informed, firstly, His Excellency President Aoun, secondly, Speaker Berri, and later Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, of the entirety of the sincere and relentless efforts and endeavors that Egypt is undertaking with instructions from His Excellency President Sisi to support Lebanon, whether with various regional parties or with international parties, to swiftly curb this Israeli aggression and put an end to it, as well as the immediate cessation of all attacks on civilian facilities and civilian infrastructure, and working to support the Lebanese state and empower it and its national institutions, at the heart of which is the Lebanese Armed Forces, so that it may shoulder its responsibilities regarding imposing its sovereignty over the entire national territory, and also dealing with the issue of confining arms to be solely in the hands of the Lebanese state. These are matters we discussed with Speaker Berri, and we said that we count on his wisdom and the wisdom of the three presidencies in the Lebanese state to preserve security and civil peace in Lebanon and to spare Lebanon the woes of sliding, God forbid, into comprehensive invasions." He said: "Egypt is exerting every possible effort with brothers and friends in the United States, France, and all concerned regional parties in order to de-escalate in Lebanon and prevent the ongoing invasions and raids targeting the private capabilities of the Lebanese people. This goes hand in hand with the sincere mediation efforts undertaken by Egypt to de-escalate the Iranian file and find channels for direct communication between the Iranian and American sides, which in itself is a very important matter. The start of these negotiations, if they take place, and reaching understandings, we hope will lead to de-escalation not only in Iran, but also here in sisterly Lebanon." He added: "Once again, we affirm our support for Lebanon and for Resolution 1701 and its full implementation without selectivity, and we will spare no effort and endeavor to work to halt military operations and military attacks and preserve the capabilities of the Lebanese people." In response to a question about whether there is an Egyptian initiative to stop the war, Abdelatty said: "Certainly, this is at the heart of the Egyptian effort and work to put forward creative ideas to achieve de-escalation and spare the woes of Israeli attacks. We are moving along all tracks at the security, political, and diplomatic levels, whether inside Lebanon or in the region and at the international level, with the aim of working effectively to de-escalate and enable state institutions to impose their control and authority, especially since the Lebanese Army has managed to achieve a lot over the past months in the area south of the Litani, and we seek to work on fully implementing it and returning to it to reach the imposition of state control over the entire national territory and confining arms to its hands and within its institutions." Douवाल On another note, Speaker Berri followed up on political and field developments and the file of the displaced as a result of Israel's continued aggression against Lebanon, during his reception of the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Sandra Douवाल.
