Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rassamni arrived at the head of an accompanying delegation in Damascus, where he was received by his counterpart, Syrian Minister of Transport Dr. Yaroub Badr. The visit falls within the framework of enhancing cooperation between the Lebanese Republic and the Syrian Arab Republic in the transport sector, particularly in the fields of land and rail transport, and discussing ways to develop transport movement and the connection between the two countries in a manner that serves shared economic interests. Talks are scheduled to address the reactivation and development of the rail connection between Lebanon and Syria, foremost among the proposed projects being the connection of the Port of Tripoli to the Syrian railway network, which contributes to facilitating the movement of goods, invigorating trade exchange, and enhancing the port's role as a logistical hub serving Lebanon and the region. The visit will also discuss prospects for developing this connection within a broader vision for regional logistical corridors, and utilizing the geographical location of Lebanon and Syria and the ports of the eastern Mediterranean to open and enhance trade routes toward Iraq, Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf countries.
