Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirmed that his position does not oppose the principle of negotiation per se, but rather adheres to the option of indirect negotiation with Israel, noting that this path has proven effective in previous stages.
Berri explained that he has long experiences in this field with a number of American envoys, the most recent of which was with Amos Hochstein in the file of maritime border demarcation, where an agreement was reached, in addition to previous progress in addressing the points of disagreement on the Blue Line.
He refrained from commenting on the chances of success of the ongoing direct negotiations, only stressing the importance of waiting for the return of the displaced, due to lack of confidence in what he described as Israeli treachery.
Regarding the so-called “yellow line,” Berri stressed the rejection of any lines imposed by Israel within Lebanese territory, saying that Lebanon does not accept any diminution of its land, regardless of its form or name.
He added that the continued occupation of any southern region means the reasons for resistance will remain, stressing that the Lebanese will resist and will continue to defend their land and sovereignty until the occupation is completely ended.
