President Joseph Aoun welcomed Lebanon's signing of an agreement with the International Center for Migration Policy Development, during his meeting with the Director-General of the International Center for Migration Policy Development, Ms. Susan Raab, at Baabda Palace. The agreement aims to regulate the legal and institutional status of the Center’s representation in Lebanon, and to provide an official framework that guarantees the continuation of the Center’s work in Beirut, enables it to work effectively and expand its activity, and also allows it to launch broader and longer-term programs, in coordination with Lebanese institutions. Aoun stressed that Lebanon is no longer able to absorb more displaced Syrians, and communication is ongoing with the Syrian state to organize their return in stages. He pointed out that the international community and humanitarian organizations that provide aid to these displaced people in Lebanon must provide it to them in their country, to encourage them to return. For her part, Mrs. Raab assured President Aoun of the Center’s commitment to assisting Lebanon, enhancing areas of cooperation, and providing the necessary expertise, including training, focusing on the importance of the partnership with Lebanon, which enjoys a high status, given its strategic role as a partner of Europe and the Mediterranean region.
