The presidency of Rafic Hariri International Airport - Beirut announced in a statement that “the airport is still, since this morning, without electrical power from the public network, which has forced it to rely on backup electricity generators to ensure continuity of operation and maintain the possible limit of work regularity in the various facilities and equipment.”
She said: “Despite the repeated reviews conducted by the Airport Presidency with the Electricité du Liban to inquire about the reasons for the power outage and the date of its restoration, promises were made about restoring the airport with electricity without achieving this, and without any official answer or clarification in this regard having been received to date.”
While she stressed that “the continued operation of vital facilities using backup generators constitutes an urgent measure to ensure business continuity,” she pointed out that “the continued power outage from this vital facility reflects negatively on the efficiency of operation and the quality of services provided, and places additional operational burdens on the airport, especially in light of the importance of maintaining the continuity of facilities and equipment related to passenger movement and the safety of operational operations.”
The airport presidency appealed to the Electricité du Liban and the concerned authorities to work urgently to address this situation and restore the electrical supply, with the need to inform the airport administration of the causes of the outage and the expected period for restoring the supply, in order to allow the necessary measures to be taken and limit the operational repercussions resulting from the continuation of this situation.
It affirmed its keenness to continue work and provide services to passengers, airlines and other entities operating within the airport, despite the exceptional operational conditions resulting from the interruption of the electrical supply, stressing that the sustainability of services in this vital facility requires the availability of regular and reliable public electrical supply.
