The Customs Smuggling Investigation Division carried out an operation that resulted in the seizure of products used in cosmetic procedures inside an illegal clinic, and the arrest of a person impersonating a doctor and handing him over to the competent judiciary. After careful monitoring and follow-up operations, and based on a signal from the competent judiciary, members of the Smuggling Search Division raided two apartments, one of which was in a commercial building in the southern suburb used as a clinic for cosmetic works, and the second was in the Hadath area. When carrying out the raid, the suspect tried to get rid of part of the merchandise by throwing it out the window, in an attempt to remove evidence from the search site. However, the vigilance of the officers thwarted the attempt, and they were able to seize the goods that were thrown, in addition to what was seized inside the site, and preserve the evidence necessary to complete the investigation. The seizures included smuggled Botox and filler preparations, a large quantity of previously used injections, in addition to devices used in cosmetic procedures. The inspection revealed professional identification cards (business cards) with the suspect’s name printed as a doctor, and medical prescription papers bearing his name, which strengthens the evidence related to his impersonation of a medical capacity. The operation comes as part of the customs campaign to combat the smuggling of materials that harm the health of citizens. Director General of Customs, Gracia Al-Qazzi, called on citizens to verify the source of the injections and cosmetic preparations and their official registration or license. According to MTV, customs warned that smugglers were hiding their goods in residential apartments and offices before redistributing them. In early October, they seized quantities of medicines and cosmetic injections in Antelias, before follow-up led them to an apartment in Matn. The seized items were transferred to the division center to complete the legal procedures, while members of the smuggling division arrested the suspect for the crime of impersonating a doctor, and handed him over to the judiciary to take legal action. Investigations are continuing under the supervision of the competent judiciary to determine the sources of the seized preparations and the financing parties, and to reveal all those involved and the routes of circulation of these materials, in preparation for taking legal measures against them, as part of the efforts aimed at combating smuggling and the financial crimes associated with it and drying up its proceeds.
