The Association for Public Basic Education in Lebanon announced a strike on Thursday, 10/15/2026, in all schools in the before and afternoon shifts. The association affirmed that it "will not stand idly by and is about to take escalatory steps at the beginning of next week if these demands do not receive the required response, based on its responsibility to defend the rights of teachers and preserve the public school." She explained in a statement that since the start of the school year on September 15 until today, the teachers hired and contracted at the funds’ expense are still waiting to complete the required studies in public schools, and the decision to enroll them depends on the response of the work team in the Ministry of Education, and we are unable to know the fate of these studies or the stage they have reached, despite our repeated and weekly requests to Her Excellency the Minister. The association was surprised by the decision to open some public schools in the afternoon to teach Syrian students, while a number of Lebanese students are still out of school. She stressed that "the Lebanese student is a priority, public school is a red line, and recruiting teachers is a duty and she will not be silent about it any longer."
