The media office of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education indicated that “the Ministry followed up on the issue of Lebanese students, who faced a problem in accepting Lebanese school transcripts from a number of Egyptian universities, in order to ensure that the exceptional circumstances that accompanied the official exams in Lebanon did not affect the students’ right to pursue their university education.” The Ministry noted in a statement that “the Lebanese Embassy in Egypt contacted the Director General of Education, Fadi Yarak, to follow up on the issue and work to find a quick solution that allows Lebanese students to complete their registration procedures and enroll in their universities.” The embassy explained that, “about 15 days ago, it received reviews regarding a number of Lebanese students who had begun registration procedures in Egyptian universities, after they faced a problem related to accepting Lebanese school transcripts.” She added that Ambassador Al-Halabi immediately made contact with the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities, to present the issue and explain the circumstances that led to the cancellation of official exams in Lebanon and the issuance of certificates to students, instead of official certificates. She explained that the Egyptian side showed understanding of the circumstances that led to this situation, especially since the students were threatened with losing their academic year, after they and their families incurred large expenses to move to Egypt and secure housing, and that official communications resulted in the acceptance of the registration of Lebanese students who hold certificates as a result of the cancellation of official exams and the issuance of certificates in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Education confirmed that it “continues to follow up on this file in coordination with the concerned Lebanese and Egyptian authorities, based on its responsibility to protect the rights of Lebanese students and ensure that their educational journey is not subject to any disruption as a result of the exceptional circumstances that the academic year went through, and to work to address any problems related to the documents issued by the Ministry in accordance with the approved legal frameworks.”
