A judicial source told AFP that Lebanon's Court of Cassation Public Prosecution has requested that former President Michel Aoun be indicted in the August 4, 2020 Beirut port explosion case. The source indicated that the Advocate General at the Court of Cassation asked the judicial investigator to "directly indict former President Michel Aoun" on the grounds that "he had prior knowledge of the presence of ammonium nitrate at the port and of its danger, without taking the necessary measures or raising the matter before the Supreme Defense Council." The source pointed out that "the Advocate General at the Court of Cassation handed over his legal study regarding the file to the judicial investigator today, and defined in it the responsibilities of more than seventy people, including politicians, security and military leaders, and officials whom the latter had previously prosecuted."
