The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced on Tuesday the reopening of the temporary crossing corridor at Qaakait al-Jisr over the Litani River to traffic, in a step that restores direct connection between the Nabatieh and Bint Jbeil districts. In a statement, it indicated that "the opening of the corridor comes after the completion of essential works carried out by the ministry to establish an alternative crossing until the bridge is permanently rebuilt, which included constructing a culvert over the Litani Riverbed, executing backfilling, road layers, and paving it." For his part, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said: "We have placed the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the south and supporting the resilience of its people at the core of our government's priorities, and today the Qaakait al-Jisr corridor is reopened and the districts of Nabatieh and Bint Jbeil are reconnected." Salam stressed that the government is working to ensure the state stands alongside the people of the south, and to successively rebuild what the attacks have destroyed and secure the requirements for resilience and return.
