The media office of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Rima Karami, responded to the remarks made by MP Paula Yacoubian regarding the classification of a school in the Bint Jbeil district among the schools that can adopt in-person learning, despite being damaged and close to occupation sites, accusing the ministry of randomness in its decisions and putting the safety of students and teachers at stake. The response stated: "The media office would like to emphasize that the lists containing the names of schools and high schools come within the framework of defining available educational options according to the security reality, and do not mean that in-person learning is imposed rigidly or in isolation from field developments, and that this list is modified daily according to security developments and updates related to shelter centers. The media office confirms that Decision No. 1241 issued by the Ministry of Education clearly stipulates that 'in-person learning shall be adopted as a first option whenever the conditions of public safety and appropriate operational capacity are available. When in-person learning is totally or partially impossible, blended learning or remote learning may be adopted temporarily.' The media office emphasizes that the directors of public schools and high schools are fully aware of these data, instructions, and implementation mechanisms, and they are responsible for assessing the situation on the ground, in coordination with parents, town figures, and local authorities, and choosing the educational format they see most appropriate and safe for students and educational bodies and informing the ministry, which in turn will facilitate everything necessary to help them within the framework of flexibility adopted by it. It should be noted that the school referred to by the esteemed MP was included under in-person learning due to a typographical error in the table. Knowing that it is within a school cluster subject to the available option according to the security reality, and it has been corrected immediately."
