British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced that his country intends to impose sanctions on the Al-Qard Al-Hasan association run by Hezbollah, a move that comes alongside Britain's announcement of a trade ban on goods manufactured in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Last year, Lebanon's central bank banned banks and financial brokerage firms from dealing with the Al-Qard Al-Hasan association, which describes itself as a charitable institution that grants loans to individuals in accordance with Islamic finance principles that prohibit fixed interest.
The British move comes as part of measures targeting funding sources and activities linked to Hezbollah, at a time when international pressures on institutions associated with it are continuing.
