Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country will impose tariffs on a wide range of US imports starting September 8.
Carney indicated that Canada will respond to the new customs duties at the same value, dollar for dollar, pointing out
The fees will include the steel, dairy products, household appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics sectors, with the government announcing the detailed list in the coming days.
Carney accused Washington of imposing unfair conditions at the last minute, stressing that "we cannot accept what they offered, and we will not provide what they asked for."
US President Donald Trump had imposed tariffs targeting wine, furniture, dairy products, cement, clothing, fishing and hockey equipment, covering Canadian exports to the United States estimated at about $20 billion.
