In line with the Tyre appeal, figures and residents of the city of Nabatieh, its surroundings, and its governorate have issued an appeal to try to save the region from continuous destruction resulting from the Israeli aggression, which targets civilians, infrastructure, and historical landmarks, and threatens the security of the people and their right to remain on their land.
The statement read:
"With the arrival of the Israeli occupation army to the towns of the district and the outskirts of Nabatieh Fawqa, and with the attacks that targeted the historical Beaufort Castle, we find ourselves before a moral and national responsibility that compels us to raise our voices high, with complete frankness and without evasion.
Our goal, like the goal of every citizen seeking to live in peace and dignity, is a permanent halt to the war, the protection of our people, cities, and villages, the complete liberation of our land, and the distancing of Lebanon and the South from the politics of axes and the wars of others, so that Nabatieh and the South do not become a card in regional negotiations in which we have no stake, while imposing the sovereignty of the Lebanese state over all its territories.
Our appeal today is an attempt to stop the destruction of our beloved city of Nabatieh and its region, hoping for a comprehensive ceasefire across all Lebanese territories.
Accordingly, we demand:
* The Lebanese government launch an urgent Arab and international diplomatic and political initiative to protect the city of Nabatieh and its district from continuous Israeli destruction and attacks.
* The enhancement of the deployment of the Lebanese Army and official security forces inside the city of Nabatieh, its surroundings, and at its entrances, and the consolidation of the presence of state institutions within it, in a manner that preserves security and stability, protects civilians, and reassures residents, the displaced, and those staying there.
* The declaration of the city of Nabatieh and its surroundings as a safe and open zone, under the sponsorship of the Lebanese state and its legitimate authority, and free from everything that puts its people in danger, which allows its residents to return to it, secures protection for the displaced, arrivals, and residents within it, and spares the city further destruction.
* The securing of safe corridors for humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, and the guarantee of the continuity of basic services for the people of the city and its surrounding villages.
* The adoption of all necessary measures to protect Beaufort Castle and other historical and heritage landmarks in the region, considering them part of Lebanon's memory and national identity.
* The pursuit in word and deed of imposing a ceasefire in Nabatieh and the South, similar to the capital Beirut, the southern suburb, and other regions.
Our appeal today is directed to the three presidents and the Lebanese government, to shoulder the national and historical responsibility placed upon them.
For the protection of the cities of the South, foremost among them Nabatieh, which forms an essential core for the steadfastness of the people of the South and their return to their land, is not a local or sectarian issue, but rather a par excellence Lebanese issue, linked today to saving Lebanon as a state, people, and entity.
Protecting Nabatieh from destruction is the protection of the South, and of all Lebanon.
