Official sources and media reports revealed details of a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday evening, during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, in the presence of US President Donald Trump. The incident led to Secret Service personnel evacuating Trump and a number of senior officials from the hall inside the Hilton Hotel in Washington. An FBI official reported that a person armed with a rifle tried to breach security measures during the party, noting that he shot a Secret Service member before he was arrested. For its part, Fox News reported from informed sources that the suspect tried to pass the security checkpoint while carrying a weapon, but Secret Service members were able to arrest him before he entered the concert hall, and he was transported outside the site. Trump commented on the incident through his account on the “Truth Social” platform, saying: “It was a special evening in Washington. The Secret Service and law enforcement forces did a wonderful job, and they acted quickly and courageously.” He added: "The shooter was arrested, and I recommended letting things go according to procedures, and I will adhere to the directives of law enforcement agencies, which will take the appropriate decision soon." He pointed out that the evening “will be completely different from what was planned,” adding that it will be reorganized. In a later post, he explained that the security authorities asked them to leave the building according to the established procedures, stressing their commitment to that. Trump also announced his intention to hold a press conference after about 30 minutes at the White House, noting that the First Lady, Vice President, and Cabinet members are all fine. He concluded by saying that contact had been made with the organizing authorities, and that the event would be rescheduled within 30 days.
