The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced that its forces found at the beginning of July about 4,000 kilograms of explosive materials, most of which were ammonium nitrate compounds, near the town of Houla in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL explained that these materials were found during a routine inspection on July 2, when peacekeepers found 385 abandoned containers inside a building, before explosives removal specialists disabled them and secured them safely. It also indicated that on July 10, another patrol found the remains of a drone near a United Nations site in southern Lebanon. After examining it, it was found that it contained explosive components, and the danger was neutralized without incident. UNIFIL confirmed that explosive clearance specialists continue to support its field operations by identifying and neutralizing explosive hazards, which contributes to securing the movement of forces and creating safer conditions for local communities as they gradually return to their villages. UNIFIL Commander and Head of Mission, Major General Deodato Abagnaara, said that reducing the risks of explosive materials is an essential element in ensuring the ability of peacekeepers to carry out their missions and promote stability in southern Lebanon.
