Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam will hold, at five o’clock in the afternoon tomorrow, Monday, an emergency meeting at the Grand Serail, devoted to examining cases of food poisoning and suspicions of food fraud, with the participation of the relevant ministers, the head of the Lebanese Food Safety Authority and the Cassation Public Prosecutor, in order to follow up on the measures taken and strengthen preventive and supervisory measures, in a way that ensures adherence to food safety standards and the protection of public health. The call comes after cases of poisoning were recorded in Akkar, northern Lebanon, most of them among children, including ten cases in the town of Benin, after eating sweets purchased from a street vendor. The director of Abdullah Al-Rassi Governmental Hospital explained that 17 cases required hospitalization to complete treatment, according to what Al-Nahar reported.
