Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that “Lebanon, at this stage, is in dire need of something that would bring the Lebanese together,” stressing that “unity between them is the only point of salvation for Lebanon.” In a press interview, President Berri stressed that Lebanon’s interest lies in strengthening the language of understanding and dialogue, and avoiding debates that threaten civil peace. Al-Jumhuriya newspaper reported that “Speaker Berri advised Prime Minister Nawaf Salam not to refer the issue of the confiscated explosives to the Judicial Council.” Regarding the Israel Boycott Law, Berri expressed strong objection to any project or proposal that aims to amend the law or cancel its effects, in a position that blocks any attempt to present it to the House of Representatives. As for UNIFIL, Berri stressed the need to adhere to Resolution 1701, to keep UNIFIL forces in the south, and to keep the southern region under the umbrella of the United Nations.
