On the thirty-sixth anniversary of the assassination of engineer Danny Chamoun, President Joseph Aoun recalled a painful episode in Lebanon’s history. He said: "We commemorate one of its men who left their mark on national life," stressing that "the years of war taught us that Lebanon cannot be an arena for other people's wars or a mailbox for their conflicts." The President of the Republic stressed that “the Lebanese are the ones who are paying the price with their lives, their security, and the stability of their homeland, while the country reaps nothing but division and destruction,” pointing out that “the lessons we have drawn from those bitter experiences force us to adhere to our national unity, and to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and the independence of its decision-making.” Aoun reiterated the necessity of restricting the decision of war and peace to the state and its legitimate institutions, in a way that protects all Lebanese and preserves the future of future generations.
