Former President of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, criticized the “Framework Agreement” for not mentioning the 1949 Armistice Agreement, clearly stated in the Taif Agreement and Resolution 1701, stressing that he did not mind the agreement if it would lead to the liberation of all Lebanese territory. He said in an interview with the newspaper "L'Orient-Le Jour": He is not in dialogue with Hezbollah, considering that the massive destruction that occurred in about 40 southern villages should push him into dialogue with the authorities to limit the damage and losses. He pointed out that he “opposed” the involvement of Iran, and therefore Hezbollah, in the regional war in 2023 and 2026, considering that “dialogue is possible and necessary for Hezbollah and the Lebanese state alike, and the President of the Republic also calls for it.” Jumblatt believed that “international and regional support is not enough to protect the government,” calling for giving the electricity issue serious attention and finding a solution for it. Electricity is now available in Aleppo around the clock, while this has not been achieved in Lebanon more than 30 years after the end of the war, considering that the only advantage of the current government is not wasting billions of dollars on subsidizing electricity, unlike previous governments, but that is not enough. He called on "the government to address public sector salaries rationally, without repeating the mistake of previous governments that increased them in a way that led to high inflation." He stressed that Lebanon "can guarantee itself a place in the new energy and trade axis that Damascus and the Arab countries are seeking to build, and we must see how the Syrians solve the electricity problem."
