Land transport sector federations and unions held an exceptional meeting headed by Bassam Tleiss, attended in part by the President of the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers, Dr. Bechara Asmar, at the headquarters of the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers, in the presence of the land transport sector federations and unions related to the sectors of (refrigerated trucks, transit tankers, buses, minibuses, and tourist cars). The session was dedicated to discussing the repercussions of rising fuel prices on the entire transport sector in all its categories, in addition to the complex files of the land transport sector federations and unions (refrigerated trucks, transit tankers, buses, minibuses, and tourist cars) related to the land transport sectors, and the phenomenon of motorcycles transporting passengers. Asmar stressed that "things have reached an unbearable limit, and the pain of workers and people will take things to places with dire consequences," affirming the position of the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers "calling for action and a strike that will be announced during a meeting held at the headquarters of the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers next Saturday with several sectors," announcing that "contacts have not stopped, but so far there is no practical result." For his part, Tleiss presented the detailed problems related to the transport sector, notably the reflection of fuel prices and the failure to protect the sector and its workers, criticizing "the government's procrastination in implementing decisions and laws, especially implementing what was agreed upon last February and decided by the Council of Ministers regarding the transport sector," calling for "addressing the pending issues and procedures with the concerned ministries, which the driver pays the price for in terms of delays in his work and the impoundment of his vehicle." At the end of the meeting, and based on the directives of those present and after voting, Tleiss announced a general strike, action, and sit-in across all Lebanese territory and the participation of all categories of the land transport sector next Wednesday, September 30, provided that the mechanisms of action are announced during a press conference next Tuesday, the 29th of this month, at the headquarters of the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers.
