A statement issued by the office of Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmed Al-Hajjar stated that "as a result of security follow-up, inquiries, and diligent investigations, the Internal Security Forces' Information Branch was able to arrest the person who had been throwing stones at cars on the Beirut International Airport road." The statement indicated that the detainee confessed to carrying out this act, while investigations continue under the supervision of the competent judiciary to uncover all circumstances and motives. In this context, Al-Hajjar affirmed that "the Internal Security Forces will continue to take necessary measures and precautions in the vicinity of the airport road, and tighten monitoring and follow-up to prevent the recurrence of these acts and ensure the safety of citizens and passersby." The arrest comes against the backdrop of the incident that occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, when the young man Mohammad Hamze died of injuries sustained from a large stone thrown toward him while he was passing on the airport road, near the pedestrian bridge adjacent to the Sports City, during his return from work at night. According to circulating information and testimonies cited from eyewitnesses, unidentified individuals threw large stones toward Hamze's car, leading to his injury before he was transferred to a capital hospital, where he later passed away from his wounds. Preliminary circulating data had indicated the possibility that the stone-throwing was linked to attempts to obstruct passersby and cars in preparation for robbery and theft operations, yet the motives of the incident have not been officially finalized yet, while information had been reported regarding similar occurrences previously recorded in the Cola and Salim Salam areas.
