Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam held a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Youssef Raji. The meeting focused on the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, particularly regional escalation and ways to de-escalate it, as well as the situation in Gaza. The discussion also addressed the future of the international presence in southern Lebanon after the end of the UNIFIL mandate. President Salam emphasized the importance of avoiding any vacuum and working to find a formula for an international presence that continues monitoring, reporting, and communication tasks, and supports the Lebanese Army in extending the state's authority over its entire territory. President Salam thanked Spain for its long-standing commitment to Lebanon and its contribution to UNIFIL, affirming the importance of sustaining this commitment in the coming phase, particularly through supporting the Lebanese Army and enhancing its capabilities, given the expansion of its responsibilities and its need for more resources and personnel. Sánchez praised the reforms adopted by the Lebanese government despite the difficult circumstances Lebanon is going through, affirming the importance of continuing this path and moving forward with the implementation of reforms. Sánchez also reaffirmed Spain's commitment to continuing its support for Lebanon and its stability.
