The Ministry of Public Works and Nourishment announced that, "as part of its proactive preparations for the rainy season, it had commenced early on cleaning and clearing drains and rainwater runoff channels, and removing soil and debris from sensitive sites, alongside monitoring spots historically known for water accumulation and taking possible preventive measures within the scope of roads and facilities under its responsibility," pointing out that "these works continued at an intensive pace over the past weeks, which enhanced the readiness of the drainage networks and field intervention teams to face any developments that might arise from heavy precipitation." It explained in a statement that "with the heavy and concentrated rainfall during short periods of time this morning, it followed up the situation on the ground with high readiness and rapid response, and mobilized its technical teams, maintenance workshops, and machinery. A number of sites witnessed temporary water accumulations as a result of the density of precipitation, so the specialized teams intervened where needed to clear filters, open drainage channels, and remove obstacles and accumulations, while the water receded in other sites immediately after the intensity of the downpour subsided, which contributed to restoring traffic movement to its normal state." Indicated the Ministry that "in the Mkalles area, the flow of water carrying large amounts of soil and gravel materials from the Mansourieh side led to their accumulation inside the filters and drainage channels, which directly affected their ability to absorb water and caused it to accumulate on the road and intersections. Immediately, the Ministry's teams and specialized machinery intervened to remove the accumulations, clean the filters, reopen the drainage channels, and work to restore traffic movement to its normal state. As a result of the follow-up and initial inspection, it turned out that the contractor executing works in the Mansourieh area had left the workshop and work sites open without taking the necessary protection and precautionary measures during the execution period to prevent the runoff of soil and materials resulting from the works towards the low-lying areas and drainage networks." It stressed that it "will not tolerate any laxity or negligence of this kind, and will deal with it with the utmost degree of seriousness and firmness, and will take against the aforementioned contractor all necessary measures in accordance with the applicable procedures, in light of the results of the final technical investigation," confirming that "it immediately began taking the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of the matter in the aforementioned site." And the Ministry pointed out that "some of the water accumulations whose pictures and clips were circulated today are located on roads or within drainage networks managed and maintained by local entities or other administrations," and said: "In contrast, the Ministry continues to coordinate with municipalities, agencies, and specialized entities wherever the effects of torrents overlap with roads located within the scope of its work, out of concern for rapid response and public safety," confirming that "the teams and workshops of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport are in a state of readiness and continuous field follow-up throughout the period of weather conditions."
