Oil prices fell today following an unexpected increase in US crude inventories, while the dollar rose amid growing bets on US interest rate hikes, and gold prices stabilized as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision.
Brent crude futures dropped 93 cents, or 0.86%, to $107.82 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 97 cents, or 0.92%, to $104.86, after both crude futures settled yesterday up by more than three dollars, driven by concerns over Saudi supplies following the suspension of oil loading operations at the Yanbu port due to an attack targeting the East-West pipeline.
Meanwhile, gold prices fell slightly as investors refrained from taking large positions ahead of the Federal Reserve's decision. Spot gold dropped 0.1% to $4,288.48 an ounce at 01:43 GMT, and US gold futures for December delivery also fell 0.1% to $4,328.10.
