The Railway and Public Transport Authority announced in a statement that Lebanese and Syrian technical delegations held meetings and field inspections to follow up on the project to restore the railway link between the two countries and connect the Port of Tripoli to the Syrian railway network. The visit included inspecting the railway line located in the Port of Tripoli and the Akkarati station on the Syrian side, where the Syrian side affirmed that the difference in track gauges between the two networks does not constitute a technical or operational obstacle to the linking process. The two sides agreed to continue working on the project, with the next phase focusing on completing the technical studies for the route, determining expected freight traffic, economic feasibility, cost, and funding sources, in preparation for holding a joint technical workshop between the two sides.
