MP Ghada Ayoub wrote on her X account: After we succeeded in enacting the law abolishing the death penalty in Lebanon, more than 14 years after MP Eli Kiroz submitted his proposal in 2012, we are today, with the general amnesty law, approaching the realization of another long-awaited justice.
Our Lebanese compatriots who did not join the military or security forces and fled to Israel after the liberation of the South in 2000, including their families, will automatically benefit from the general amnesty, which finally opens the road for their return to their homeland.
The irony is that Law 194/2011, submitted by the Free Patriotic Movement at the height of its understanding with Hezbollah, remained ink on paper for 15 years, without the issuance of the implementing decrees that would allow their return.
What has remained pending for 15 years, we settle today by the text of the law. These are Lebanese, and Lebanon does not abandon its sons.
