An American official indicated that any possible repercussions of the expected agreement between the United States and Iran on the Lebanese arena will remain linked to the behavior of Hezbollah and the extent of Tehran’s commitment to the requirements of calm in the region.
In response to a question about whether Lebanon was included in the deal, the official said that the matter “is up to Hezbollah and Iran,” adding that peace “requires two parties.” He continued: "If Hezbollah is firing missiles at Israel, and if Iran is financing these missiles, it is clear that they have not adhered to their part of the agreement."
The official said in a phone call with journalists that the understanding “includes Lebanon, Iran, the Gulf states, and Israel,” according to AFP.
He explained that the agreement was formulated in a way that ensures that Iran bears its responsibilities with regard to regional stability, stressing that Washington expects Tehran to be "a real actor in peace."
Regarding the course of the negotiations, the official revealed that the Iranian side informed the Americans that Mojtaba Khamenei is satisfied with the course of the negotiations and their location, indicating continued progress in the talks aimed at reaching a final agreement between the two sides.
