UNIFIL reported that the intensity of the bloody escalation recorded last night reflects a new and worrying deterioration in the nature of the ongoing confrontation between the Lebanese and Israeli sides. She pointed out that the succession of mutual bombardments, the increase in air strikes and ground movements, along with the expansion of the Israeli military presence inside Lebanese territory, represent changes that call for grave concern. It also expressed its dissatisfaction with the continued issuance of “evacuation orders” by the parties to the conflict, due to its repercussions on the civilian population on both sides of the Blue Line. The international force added that the pace of tense rhetoric increases the complexity of the already fragile reality. UNIFIL reiterated its appeal to the parties concerned for the need to return to compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and a complete cessation of hostilities, as the only path to achieving sustainable stability. International peacekeeping units continue to be deployed in their centers in the operations sector in southern Lebanon and along the Blue Line, where they continue to monitor violations and coordinate with the parties, while making all possible efforts to facilitate the transit of humanitarian aid and ensure the safety of civilians.
